Fun spot. Bustling. Good beers on tap. Creative & tasty cocktails. Everyone working there was cool... including the sweet guy checking IDs at the bottom of the stairs, fabulous host at the top, and professionals behind the bar. I bet they have a great holiday party.
A real hiding gem. I stop by after enjoying my 5 guys burger. I had a good 2 drinks with a shot, and they were all good. The bartenders recommended a drink after we picked the ones we wanted to try, and we enjoyed them as well . I loved the look of the place it gave me back in the day bar vibes that you can't get anymore. It's very low-key, and I see myself visiting again. My good brother gave it 2 thumbs up.
Managed to be here off peak so my friends and I had a proper catch up in a cozy space with yummy cocktails. Had a proper tour and look of the place too in a quiet Sunday afternoon. Had ‘Charlie’s Angels’ which was a yuzu-based egg white drink ~yummy~
Whent here and was told someone would come to take my drink order but no one ever came 😔. It also had really loud music for a speak easy. Felt more like a tiny club. Giving it an extra star because it was a nice location and looked cool inside
Very disappointed in my experience at this "speakeasy".
Pros: It is very hidden. If you don't know what to look for, it is unlikely you'd ever know about it.
Cons:
1. Service was non existent. Once we arrived, a server came to our area to adjust out table. We waited about 10 minutes for her to come back to take our order before going up to the bar to order. Once there after waiting awhile, the same server told us she would come take our order at the table and that we don't order at the bar. After another 10-15 minute wait at our seats without her coming by I returned to the bar only ro be completely ignored by her. She was much more interested in setting our candles (that weren't even lit) than helping us. We ultimately left without ever being served.
2. The music in the speakeasy was way too loud
The vibe felt more like a night club than a speakeasy.
Overall, the experience here was really disappointing.
After being let up the stairs, I was called back down and told I could not enter due to the black, fitted joggers I was wearing. It's not noted on their site or anywhere online, but the bar above a Five Guys... apparently has a dress code? What the dress code is I'm not sure, as others went up with ripped and faded jeans. Definitely put a wrench into date night. I was dressed to go out and looked sharp, and was surprised to be let up only to be called back down before even ordering a drink. The interaction was handled poorly, and I won't be going back.
Took our John’s pizza up here & drank cocktails. It’s upstairs five guys. Walk into 5 guys & the staircase in the back takes you up.
Went at an off time so it wasn’t busy & was lovely. Bohemian nightmare was good.
Enjoyable
So... I think I finally get what a lot of the one star reviews are saying. I think the profile of this place has changed from Speakeasy to ... well ... bar.
Yes, its above the 5 Guys.
Yes, everyone gets carded.
Yes, if you don't know it's there, you will easily miss it.
My test for this bar was an Old Fashion, simple, not too complicated. Score - OK.
Trust, I have had some amazing OFs between NY and Osaka, but this place doesn't necessarily do anything to it that's phenomenal.
The staff is friendly but that could be subjective; I'm overly friendly and chatty, so in this area perhaps my perspective is a bit ... skewed.
Personally, I think if you approach people professionally, they tend to err on this approach themselves.
Is it noisy?
In short, YES. I was here on a Sunday night around 8 and it was quite rowdy . One the amazing Opera singing employees told me that "this is light for us." So perhaps, as a first time visit, I would recommend you come on a Sunday evening.
If you come here with Speakeasy expectations, then yes, you will be disappointed.
If you come here for a busy, lively bar, then yes you will be very delighted.
